A library card.
Use of the library is free and a bedtime story can be an event for children of all ages. .In our house it is perhaps the most fun half hour of the day.

Public libraries will order books that they do not have on the shelf for you. This can cost as little as 50p and is often cheaper than buying them second hand from a charity shop or car boot sale.
Choosing books together can be as much fun as reading them and most libraries let you take out quite few at a time.
If you are not a member remember to take in proof of identity and a household bill so you can join. If in doubt phone the library and ask what is required before you go.
Warning: You will be fined for returning books late but you can usually renew the loan at least once by phone if no one else has ordered the book. Do not expect to be able to take out more books if you have fines outstanding.
